Costly business card idea?

I proposed something like this to the heads of our management, legal and marketing departments. They like the design but feel having this pull out thingy will be very costly. I wanted to try something a bit different for them as they usually get the logo on a white business card format. Nothing wrong with that, but nice to try something different once in a while. Plus the fact that I always get fancy cards thrown in my face after they return from events. I gently remind them that these companies spent money to have these fancy cards (aluminium cards, metallic inks, embossing, etc.)

My main boss is mostly concerned about the price and the little amount of info contained on the card (even though I said the info is for demonstration). They could put what they like on the inside section.

They're leaning more towards having it with the same design but no pull out.
Is the concept even valid? Will it work? I'm worried the final card would be too thick.

What are your thoughts/concerns designerstalk folk?

The pull-out could have an idea-led purpose rather than just being a gimmick?

Tricky to justify the cost otherwise IMO.

Nice looking card and nice idea, but maybe not so practical. I think the cards would be come exceptionally thick with the pullout.

If your company is a design company though, then I would do it. Nothing says you have pride in your work like using it yourself!

I agree that most of the time a simple card with clear communication works the best in functionality and in the stay of the pocketbook. However if you are a big design firm and you are giving cards away to people to sell your design, I would say that thick or not your card is not going to be the first to get tossed in a waste bin. In the design industry you want to stand out and I think the concept is very cool. I would save it just because it is new and different.
