Dslr

Thinking about getting a DSLR, my point and shoot is seriously affecting the quality of my work. But i'm pretty clueless.

My mate just bought a Canon Eos 350D off ebay for £200 which seems pretty reasonable.

What are some good models? my budget goes up to £250 (second hand/refurbished ideally)

Cheers

the differences between both cameras is minor... 6 and 8 megapixel!!.. you won't notice the difference...
... i have always worked with Nikon and know my around nikons different for different people..

... one thing to keep in mind the nikon can be pushed to ISO 3200 and the canon can't!!

depends what you want...!

Im in the same position as you Andy.

Have to say Im liking the look of the Nikon D40 at the moment when you compare sample images from the various manufacturers for me the Nikon is alot superior.

Another great thing about this camera is it has a kind of unique user interface thats geared around novice slr users, It helps explain (visuallly) what the various controls on the camera are actually doing and how they will effect your picture.

And dont be put off by the fact it is 6 megapixels. It really isnt a big deal, the resultant picture is still fucking massive and besides it matters more the grade of lens you have fitted because if it cant focus nicely on the image sensor it doesn't matter a toss how pixels u have will still look toss.

I have so far been impressed by the nikon sample images, they seem to have an almost painterly quality and the colour re-production is spot on, very low on noise too.

Whatever u go for though, look at the sample images not the camera...the proof is in the pudding

Probably a more comparable model to the Nikon D40 from Canon would be the 400D (aka Digital Rebel XTi - terrible name, I know). They've also brought out the next model 450D (aka Digital Rebel XSi) which is 12MP and has a massive 3inch screen.

Let me know if you want to see some example shots.

I would highly recommend the Digital Rebel range. In the end though, it's more about the lens you've got on the end of it anyways. Canon lenses are arguably a little cheaper, but Nikon glass is of equal quality.
