design A or design B?

hi all

i'm new to this so please don't expec

t too much

I have made two versions of a homepage of a site, they are not fully functional yet - i want to incorporate a slide show in the space where the scans/covers of the mags are that will cycle between 6 titles the client has worked on.

which do you think is better?

white one Index

green one

any feedback welcome, be as harsh as you like, it's the best way for me to learn

I like the second one better. The colours are good and the navigation is better.

Well i think the second one is more prominent somehow, maybe because you have contained the content in a box. I'm not a great fan of the background colours though.

The first one can work if you perhaps created some contrast between the content and background, and if you made the navigation much more prominent.

There is also too much weight on the left side, maybe you could balance things out by moving the navigation to the top right, inline with the logo.

If you do go for the second (green one) consider the hierarchy of your menu. Ideally your name would go first, as this is most important, not a home button (which isn't strictly necessary as you could simply assign the index link to your name).

that's very true - altough i've got into this '3 lines' type of design and if i removed 'home' it's break it up

i like the green too but it's missing something - the balance is all a bit off

I'd go for design b and change the entire colour scheme.

Not too keen on the background image, green/camo is alright, but I'd look at more contrast for the navigation, body text colour etc.
