jpeg compression
i'm submitting some entries for the northern design competition, they need jpegs 300dpi at A4 size, no larger than 2mg. i can't get mine under 2.7mg without 'saving for web', which defies the point of them being used for print. how can i compress the jpegs for print without losing loads of quality? fanks |

As I understand it, Save for Web is just a more advanced version of Save As --> JPEG with a few more options. Certainly the end output is still just a JPEG file - I'm not sure why it would matter what method you used to create it. |

Have you tried Fireworks? It has selective compression -allows you to specify different compression levels for different parts of an image. Areas with less detail can have high compression, and areas where you want to avoid artifacts can be much less compressed. You can do the same in Photoshop using an alpha channel or masks, but Fireworks is easier and allows you to just drag marquees. Last edited by Hunch : 21-02-2008 at 11:19. |
