Dimensions, horizontal or vertical first?

When i'm doing a design/artwork with a size legend on the bottom which do you list first, the width or the height of the artwork?

Having a mass-debate at work about it!

newspaper/magazine sizes are listed height (cm) then width (column).

from what i can see it's width first.. but you're safe if you put and indication. i.e

W:1200mm X H:2mm
