Windows vista / ftp problem
I am running windows vista on my new laptop. No matter what I do I cannot seem to get it to connect to my ftp site using ie explorer or firefox. I have tried getting the hot fix that windows says can be downloaded when they send you a email after you request it and the hotfix errors out every time i unzip it. I have seen many others post on different sites about having the same problem and was wondering if there is a fix. Is their a easy way to get to my ftp site using ie explorer or firefox with vista? |

Almost everything in Vista won't run perfect due to the admin rights. Do this for all your programs / software etc: Right click on the icon, click properties, then on the compatibility tab - check the box where it says 'run this program in compatibility mode for' then choose windows xp service pack 2 from the drop down. Then at the bottom click on 'Run this program as an administrator' you can click apply here or click on 'show settings for all users and do the same again there to ensure it will work for all users including admins. Might fix your problem, if not then I don't have a clue. Just get a normal FTP client like AceFtp Cute FTP or Filezilla. |

When I right click on the icon and go to the comp tab it wont let me change anything. Its all greyed out and a message at the top reads "Compatability modes can not be set on this program because it is part of this version of windows." I have been trying to use filezilla to transfer the files to my pc. When I create a new folder and try to move any file to it from the ftp site it says it went to the folder but when I check the folder no files are there. I look at the same folder in the filezilla window and it shows the files. I have tried this several times with no luck. I used a friends laptop with xp on it (for experiment) and it transfered them just fine to the folder. Is there maybe a port I have to open in vista? |

maybe a copy of Disable Annoying Vista UAC popups with TweakUAC (free!) may help. seriously switch that shit off… …and the windows firewall, if you cant afford a decent firewall there are several ok free ones (better than windows firewall anyway)—Comodo™ Free Firewall Software Download is pretty good for a freebie. meh.
