no idea; used the packed stuff before finding out it's no bloody use for dynamic web app. testing, hence relying virtualisation.

Get a cheap PC with XP for testing older versions of browsers that you still wish to support.

Download details: Virtual PC 2007

Microsoft Virtual PC, which runs on XP, 2000, and Vista, has been free for a year and a half.

Don't bother supporting any IE less than 6. The user base is so small and the effort is so great that it's not worth it.

At work, I run a medium sized corporate site with a pretty conservative user-base (military, government, etc) that gets thousands of visitors per month. It gets around 3-5% visitors on IE < 6. I don't bother catering to them.

Bear in mind for virtualization or dual booting you'll need to buy a copy of XP. Pgo's suggestion is far better. I'd forgotten all about MS Virtual PC.

Fairy muff... bear in mind that you can get an old spunker such as this on eBay for twenty odd quid tho. (or probably less for even older kit - find something nearby and you can pick it up and save delivery costs.) Throw in a cheapo kvm or a crappy old keyboard/monitor/mouse and you're set for well under a bullseye. Since the only purpose is seeing how things render in different browser versions you don't need much power at all.
