Interactive Design
I'm doing my dissertation and need a few opinions and comments from 'working professionals' Whether you deal with the questions in particular or not I'd still like some sort of input from you, if your a print specialist and don't deal with anything I am asking, I would still like your opinions on the question at hand. The dissertation is almost finished already and this sort of short questionaire is just the last bit before the conclusion. For those of you who will say 'What are you on about lad' IMO - Interactive design is and will be anything from hand held devices to the web or interactive books where the user can change the story with the choices they make. Basically anything thats interactive and digital. Could you please take a moment to answer these questions for me, I will be quoting you in my disseration so if you work for an agency - would you kindly leave your name and agency name aswell, or PM me it. I know it might be a bit to much to ask for. Thanks in advance to those who reply. My dissertation title is "What is the added value of Interactive Design". 1) Do you feel that Interactive design is the way forward? In general LIFE situations, e.g. would you rather be using your iphone to read the newspaper or hold an actual newspaper? 2) Will it turn us (the human race) into technologically dependants? 3) What do you think we will be doing in the next twenty years? (Flying in our hover cars to work? or sitting at home being fat and lazy while the robot/wife cleans the house). Any cool things you think of that would be nice to have (regardless of the how impossible it is). 4) Do you think interactive displays and/or ebooks alike will ever replace the BOOK itself? Should it? 5) Do you think there is any sort of Health and Safety issues with Interactive Design? Things such as RSI or any other illness/injury from using technology or something to do with your eyesight due to looking at computer screens etc. 6) Anything in particular that you like that you have seen recently, for example the videos on youtube of the guy using the nintendo wii as a way to track head and hand movements OR any sort of technology that has made you take a second look, or just generally made you smile and think 'thats pretty cool'. If you can help out by answering any of the above that would be great thanks. I can't stress enough that this is just for the chapter before the main conclusion, it will be used and full credit will be given where needed. Again I'm not asking you to write the dissertation for me (its almost finished). Thanks again. Scott Last edited by Scott : 26-01-2008 at 09:19. |

probably not helpful but... 1) Do you feel that Interactive design is the way forward? anything that makes life easier is usually a hit. no doubt people will quickly start to 'need' maps in there mobile phones. me included eventually no doubt 2) Will it turn us (the human race) into technologically dependants? you mean where not already? try looking at the world the way the luddites did. 3) What do you think we will be doing in the next twenty years? (Flying in our hover cars to work? or sitting at home being fat and lazy while the robot/wife cleans the house). Any cool things you think of that would be nice to have (regardless of the how impossible it is). hopefully we would have been wise enough not to destroy many of the things that make the world diverse and wonderful in the pursuit of the modern western lifestyle ideal. 4) Do you think interactive displays and/or ebooks alike will replace the BOOK itself? Should it? i think it'll see a swift demise of the daily newspaper. the humble paperback book will live on for a long long time. 5) Do you think there is any sort of Health and Safety issue with Interactive Design? anything involving driving. though the air bags will keep the prick behind the wheel all nice and safe while he ploughs me down. 6) Anything in particular that you like that you have seen recently, for example the videos on youtube of the guy using the nintendo wii as a way to track head and hand movements etc. nothing really. the way the iphone works was the last thing i saw and thought. ooooh. anti social marketing

For who? For designers? For consumers? For publishers? I think it's too broad a question. What do you mean by 'the way forward'? Better? More common? Quote:
When I leave my mobile phone at home by mistake, I feel like I'm suddenly out of contact yet less than 2 decades ago, no one had one. We feel like we need these things, but if you sold your PC tomorrow, you'd still be able to lead a perfectly normal life. Physically dependent? No. Psychologically dependent? Maybe. Quote:
Life won't be fundamentally different from now. I think we're going to see a slowing in the pace of technological change. Quote:
There may eventually be environmental reasons from switching away from paper based products, but I doubt they'll die out completely. Quote:
Doing it? Using it? Really, you need to be a lot less ambiguous with your questions. Quote:
Is head tracking the same thing as interactive design? What do you want people to say? Just give examples of interesting technologies we've seen? Not wanting to be difficult, but I really think you need to have a think and come back with a much more tightly focused, clearer set of questions if you want to get a good response. Quote:
Hmm - maybe you've just answered question 2 for yourself. Perhaps a more interesting subject for your dissertation might be, "Is technology contributing to an ongoing decline in educational standards, so that even someone at university can't confidently type more than a few sentences without feeling the need to rely on a spell checker?" |

Haha Hunch you Grumpy old man, The questions are just GENERAL, nothing really specific about them at all. I'm talking all areas, regardless of what profession you are in. If you think of it as TECHNOLOGY in general then? Regarding the spell checker thing, If you noticed I didn't need it after all. Its just a back up of course. Typing fast usually results in the odd typo of a letter switched around that I may have missed while typing and then still missed after I briefly skimmed through the post at the end. By no means did I mean I need the spell checker as I can't spell i'll have you know Thanks for the reply though |

That's fine, but people need to understand what you're asking if they're going to answer your questions. I couldn't work out what it was you wanted from several of them. Believe me, I'm not trying to be difficult; I'm trying to help you. Quote:
You have a spelling mistake in the first line. |
