Upscale design with Shite logo???

Ok I just recently have the job of designing some brochures for a realty company that has a few different developments. Their logos were put together by a previous designer and saying they're shite is a compliment...

How do you go about designing a nice upscale brochure when you have 12 year old's artwork as a logo...and they want their logo very prominent on the brochure???? Has anyone ran into this...there has to be, most companies have crappy logos. HELP!

I'm dealing with this sort of situation right now, but with a non-profit's website. It's hard to design something great around something terrible, isn't it?

Is there no way you have make the logo less prominent... like spot uv'in on the cover and making the brochure a one or two colour doc??..... i am only guessing about how hideous it is.. solutions are hard if we don't know what it looks like!!

variety of horrible logos I had to put up with in my last workplace:

There was nothing I could do about it, too little time for the whole job etc.

Those would win prizes for design excellence elsewhere in the world, Aats. Remember where Emma lives and imagine the crap logos generated from heraldic tradition, Victorian-style handwriting etc.

How did your interview go?

You just have to put up with it, do the best you can and not consider it as a design to go in your portfolio (this way you won't get as frustrated).

Yes, I do live across the pond and I would love to defend our logos over here but seeing Herr Kurm's BAD logos...I feel even worse...Those logos are top notch compared to these...I'll have to do some searching so I can post them here...I just looked and the one on their webpage doesn't look like the one I have for my estimate...just close your eyes and dream of a logo that is made up of clip art cat-tails (marsh like plants) and 3 different fonts...i'm not joking.
