Customizing Blogs

Hi Guys,
it's been pretty long since I last posted.

Anyway, I am currently working on a new blog to put up my portfolio.
However, I realize that most blog service available allows few customizing option, mostly only of template to choose from than anything else.

The thing is, I know nuts about programming so I wouldn't be able to understand the codes necessary. Is there an alternate way to do so? Maybe by placing the graphics around instead?

If not, is the necessary programming knowledge needed to do something like that hard to pick up? Is there any recommended tutorial links around?

Lastly, I had registered myself with blogspot... and would really appreciate help here.

The level of customizing I'm looking at is along the line of...
WELCOME! GRAB one for XMAS with DISCOUNTS!!
Widgeo.us Blog

Huge thanks in advance and happy new year

hi,

1. did you try a google search fpr +blogspot +templates
2. if you found a template that will fit your need, go on and get yourself two tools:
a. firefox and b. firebug ( getfirebug.com)

firebug is an extension for firefox. with firebug you can edit the css file of the template and you can see "on the fly" what changes you made. a really great tool for editing templates. just play around with it. its really not that hard :-)

it might be the best for you, but it's not THE best blogging system.
Have a look at ExpressionEngine, as an exemple.

if you go to any wordpress page that has been made famous via Reddit / Digg / Delicious, or any other rating news page thing a jig, It's nearly impossible to get to it.

Maybe I under-exaggerated how many people it takes to crash the wp blog but yeah, you get the point.

Eveyone with his/her tastes. I personally think Wp is the most flexible out there, that's why I like it.
@raypdds: Blogspot is alright if you want to start blogging, maybe later you'll know more and think about migrating to another platform.

I guess when a wp page chrashed its mostly because of the servers not wp. install it on an own server - not on a shared webpace :-)

wow ... and now is there any way you can proove this?

why do people always have to get personal? Why canīt you accept that the different systems have different advantages ...

and some of wp imho are: the really big community, lots and lots of plugins for nearly every need, a good documentation, easy to learn, template editing is easy, if you know some php you can customize it for your needs ...

and the second thing is : donīt compare two things you canīt compare. blogger is a hosted blog solution and wp CAN be :
a. a hosted blog sulution or
b. a self hosted blog/cms solution

Well if it'd be the server then there would be a 'Connection timed out error' but there isn't it just shows the little WP logo and some nifty text describing it. Servers are fine, WordPress is quite contrary.

+ I'm much too stubborn to use someone else's code when I would rather code it myself.
