firefox/notepad

OK I'm new to web design and computers are still kinda new to me too.
I heard that firefox is a good browser for designers so I got it and went right to work on my site. Heres the problem after I worked at it for a while I shut everything down then when I came back I opened up my site, which is not online its only stored in a file on my desk top, I clicked the view source button notepad opened up but I cant change anything, its like my browser doesnt know this is my website stored on my computer. Now Ive got this half finished web site I cant do anything with. What am I missing?
thks

Thats what Im doing. I open the file so I have the page in front of me, then I click view source, the new window opens with my source code in it. But I cant change that code. Ive designed 5 new pages just trying to figure uot whats going on and its the same with all of them. I cant change the source code.

you cant edit the source by load it in firefox then selecting view source you have to right click the .html file and open that in notepad

1. Open notepad.
2. Go to File>Open and find the file containing your html, open it.
3. Edit and save.
4. Open the file in Firefox to see your changes (you may need to refresh it).
5. Rinse and repeat.

Think about it like Microsoft Word. You can't edit a document by reading the printed copy, even though it contains all the same content. You have to open the original file in a word processor. Firefox is the 'printed' copy. You need to go to the source to change it.

Thanks Hunch. I've got it now. With IE As long as the file was stored on my computer I just had to view source and I could change it right there. Fire Fox is a little different.

Yes, that is different. The nice thing about view source in Firefox is that it's syntax highlighted, making the code easier to read.

Check out the thread I just posted: http://www.designerstalk.com/forums/...eb-design.html

Good luck!
