Flash problem

I have a flash symbol. I clicked on it, copy & pasted it. Now I want to make the second one I copied to be its own separate symbol, so I can edit it individually.

How do I do this?

I tried converting it to its own symbol, but when I go to edit it, it shows up as the original symbol.

Copy the original object/symbol, then edit the copy and drag it into the workspace.

Yes, it did. I am working with someone else's flash files, and they used two different symbols for one real item (which doesn't make any sense). The convert to symbol thing I tried would have worked for 1 symbol, but not the symbol within a symbol. With your method I could copy both symbols and edit both of them to make it work.
