Help with retro 3D text
Hey guys, I've been baffled about this technique for quite some time now. I want to create a retro style 3D text, not the cheesy Windows screen saver type, but the more 80's video game style 3D text with the vanishing point. For an example, go here and scroll down to a piece called "CMYK LOVERS" guilherme marconi Look for the gold text, which stands out, that reads "CMYK LOVERS" Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

In illustrator just choose a nice blocky font (in caps is best) with an outline and a fill to match the background. Then alter its perspective using 3D rotate so that it now looks like you're looking at it from another angle. Then choose a point below this text and draw straight lines from each cornered 'edge' of the letters that all meet at this single point. It's hard to explain, but hopefully not too hard to pull off. Good luck with it. *EDIT* - it's worth noting that you'll need to take into account layer order and visibility to pull off the effect properly. |

That looks like a wireframe rendering from a 3D software. If you want to illustrate something like that simply, just create a text layer in illustrator and extrude it. There are plenty of options that allow you to create perspective, lighting, wireframing, etc. Here's one I just did in 5 minutes. |
