seo and rel="nofollow"
Hi. I have a site that ranks top of Google for a certain key phrase. I want to link to a few of the sites just below me on Google, as they will prove useful for users. I imagine these sites would be willing to exchange links if I contacted them. However, I'm worried that in PR terms they will gain from this more than I do, and may overtake me in the rankings. I was thinking the best way to deal with this would be to add rel="nofollow" to their links (and to forget about a link exchange). Any thoughts on this matter would be very gratefully received. |

To my understanding, unless your actual pagerank is significantly higher than theirs, a link exchange could benefit all sites fairly equally. Google toolbar has a pagerank sniffer built in, so I would suggest taking a look at your site, and the others, and seeing if they are similar or not. My signature sucks.

No... put PR does have a big impact on how beneficial links are to your own PR. In this case, the other sites will get more benefit as they have a lower PR and are being linked to from a site with a higher PR, where as this guy wont see much benefit in his PR from links from PR3 sites. My signature sucks.

Then link to them for the benefit of users, not for PR rankings. Keep your users happy and coming back, and that will keep Google happy. |
