Why is there a horizontal scrollbar? Gap appears when width < 1300px?

Hi folks and happy thanksgiving if you celebrate that sort of thing.

The site I am working on was all good to go except I suddenly discovered a bug that I had missed, in all browsers if you resize the browser window to somewhere less than ~1300px a horizontal scrollbar appears, and there is a new gap on the right hand side of the site.

The page is: here
CSS: style.css

I thought the scrollbar may be related to my excessive use of floats in the navigation menu but I removed that and the problem was still there.
Any thoughts?

Kind regards
myles

Just tried changing them to 500px (smaller) and then 600px (larger) to no avail.

Could you be a little more specific in what you refer to and what this might be doing?

Ahha! I deleted any mention of width's for the nav and footer containers and this solved it

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

using the web developer toolbar for firefox gave it away. It outlines and names objects when moving your mouse over them.
