Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)

Anyone familiar with this error and its cause ??

A silly client decided to ignore the 90 day, 60 day, 30 day, 15 day and 7 day notices from 123reg telling him that his domain was due to expire ...

he only decided to produce a credit card 2 days after expiration ... and 'lo and behold' although re-registering seemed to go smoothly as usual - his domain now just shows this message ... ??

its an asp cart hosted externally - and googling it seems to show that it could be a dns error or a wndows/iis error ??

can anyone add anything of note ??

It means they've simply deactivated the url. Possibly permanently. Tightwad will probably have to buy a new hosting service and start over again.

he pays brewsters for the hosting ... why would they cancel that 24 hours after domain expiration ?

that doesn't sound right ...

How long has it been since said silly client re-registered the domain?
May be a case of waiting for the renewal to propagate?

Have you updated the nameservers? Sometimes when I re-register domain names the settings go back to default.

Have you done a whois to make sure the domain is pointing in the right place?

yeah - i've done all that ... re-set the name servers (twice) ... its been about 7 - 9 days since we renewed, and all whois stuff looks ok ...

123reg are yet to respond to my email about it ... but could it be that it is a windows error of some sort ??

its an asp/access shop - hosted at cactushop ...

Hosting companies usually don't cancel the service when the domain name expires. Unless maybe when the hosting company and the domain registrant was the same company.

As said above, make sure that the NS is pointing to the right place. Can you FTP to the hosting account? Are all the files there?

had a very similar prob with a client who let the domain expire but phoned 123 reg, no joy, then contact tucows (123reg's domain dealer ppl) and the domain was re-activated within hrs.

what happen when you ping the domian? same i presume. i would get on the phone to 123reg and get them to explain pronto before you go radio rental.

I would presume that 123reg can contact tucows and sort this.

if you still haven't any joy by the morn let me know and i'll try dig out the tucows number which i had. they seem to sort this out quickly however you have to speak very nicly to them as you are not the customer and they want all contact to them to be throu 123reg, just say theat 123reg told you to phone. that what i did.

anyway ain't got the contact details for them now, will try dig it out of office tomorrow and post back

nice one mate ... sounds promising.

when i tried to call 123 the message said that there was a 25 minute wait, so i hung up. I ain't getting paid for any of this - still haven't had the cost of the domains reimbursed - and if it looks like any kind of headache for me then i'm just gonna walk away.

i would just prefer to walk away once its all working again - and sleepless nights are not an option !!

couldn't find the number for tucows but here is the email that i used once.

banterwebhelp1@tucows.com

worth while sending them an email about this.

as for the long wait with 123reg try this special number, seems to get me connected quickly. not sure why as it is the just the local version of the 0870 no, maybe just my luck
