so you basically need to trace the outlines. If that's the largest picture
you have, you will probably lose some of the details.

You will need to use the pen tool. Press successively P,A,P
(shortcuts for pen, direct selection tool, pen again)
and that way, using your mouse and combinations of ctrl/cmd shift and alt keys
you should be able to trace it.

I don't know a particular website, but having a look around google for
"illustrator pen" yielded this result, which seems to cover the basics of the pen tool.

One thing you need to remember is not to click too often.
If you use fewer points you will get smoother shapes.

Of course you can do it in photoshop, and if you really have too much
time on your hands even paint, but I think you'll be better off learning
Illustrator in the long run.

With your particular object it would be best if you started it off as rectangles
(generally it's best to start form a basic shape rather than you start
tracing it around, I find) that you can bend into place eventually.

Bring your image into illustrator, drop its opacity and lock it's layer
so you can draw straight over it.

Luck.

Place the raster graphic in your open illustrator document, double - click the layer name and tick the "template". Start tracing. Apply gradients and gradient meshes. Done.
