Fonts
This is probably a really stupid question but it's bugged me for a while. Is it safe to use a font for commercial work if it's already been used by antoher company? such as Gill Sans or DIN?? don't be harsh just wanted to clear it up |

I'm confused, are you saying that if another company has used Gill Sans in their logo then your not sure if you can use it? The answer is you can. Any fonts that are commercially for sale are for anyone. If a company wants its own font then they would have it specifically built and it wouldn't be for sale... or they would come to some agreement with the fonts author and have it taken off the market (unlikely). I've got a couple of custom fonts on my PC from various clients over the years - I would be in deep shit if I used them for another job, or shared them on the web. Its a shame because one of them is a gorgeous font set you could use for any modern typo layup. unconsolidated isoparms

yeah thats what i meant. I just wanted to make sure cause i've bagged myself a job for a big international company through my brother and didn't want me, him or the company to end up in the shit. When you say you have custom fonts what do you mean? And why couldn't you use them? |

He means they were created for that client specifically and they own all the usage rights, like Channel 4 E4 etc have their own custom made fonts that no one else can use. But the commercially available fonts such as the ones you're talking about are fine for use. |
