Rotators?

I have to say I am confused. I recently started a job with a hockey team and our website is not good. I want to add a news/image rotator that is seen on many sports websites such as the Calgary Hitmen site which is hitmenhockey .com. It is the module that has pictures and the start of news stories and you can click on the pic or a link and it will redirect you to the story. Does this make any sense? The problem is I am new to being in charge of a website and I have no idea what this feature is actually called and where I can get one? How much it costs? Could someone please help?

Thanks.

That's pretty scary if they hired you as the web designer/programmer...

If you're just in charge of project management for the website, then stop panicking m8...find someone out there to program this for you. Give them the site you referenced and tell them you want similar functionality. Once you have the pricing, go to your higher-ups and say "to do this, it is going to cost X". "X" being the price you're quoted by the firm/freelancer you choose. There are probably even a few people you could hire here at dt.

Of course, I'm really hoping you're just project managing here. If you're the web guru, they made the wrong hire. Sorry.

PS - Another great news/image "rotator" is on ESPN.com. I believe it's actually powered by SlideShowPro (with some slick modifications).

Oh yeah i am a project manager. If they hired me to be a designer I would be fired by now! The issue is that I don't have a lot of support from our designer. He told me to find out who makes one and he would get it and put it in. He does not want to create one as our site is not of high importance to him. That being said I am floundering trying to find one, but thanks for the espn one as at least there is a name attached to it. I just thought that these were so common that it would not be that difficult to find an established one to just plug into the site. I guess I was wrong...

If he's just a designer, he may have trouble programming SlideShow Pro to work like it does on ESPN.com. That said, he should know someone that can create something similar.

Thanks I appreciate your advice. To break down what you are telling me is that the only way to have a news/image rotator on our site is to have someone design it for us. I looked at the ones on SlideShow Pro and they did not have a text portion to them. For me it is very important as I need to preview the stories that the pictures represent. So I am now swimming upstream and must find a programmer to accomplish this...damn, I thought it would be easy

I'm only pointing to it as an option I'm quite sure has been used to achieve your intended goal. Good luck in your search.

Sucks when you have designers who don't know how to design as well though. Which sounds like the situation the guy is in.
