Template creation in Word and Powerpoint

I don't often need to ask for help, but these Microsoft "basics" have thrown me.

I need to create an A4(portrait) template for Word with the bottom third featuring three logos and some address text at the bottom. I created a jpg in Photoshop, and expected to be able to import it into a Word document and resave it as a template, so all pages would share the same logo/address features. Well, you know what a template is - I needn't explain it!

But I can't do it. I assume it might be possible - although I don't know for a fact. One AD friend said I should save it as a .dot file (DOc Template) but that didn't help much.

I also need to create an A4 (landscape) template for PowerPoint, using the exact same jpg with three logos and address text down the bottom. Didn't have any luck doing that, either.

Anyone know how to create Word/PowerPoint templates? Assistance required by Monday 24th, 1200 hours!

I just had a quick look at powerpoint and i think what you need to do is make up your slide as you want it, then go to save as, and change the save as type box to design template. Only thing is that stills allows someone to edit the template.

That might help it tells you how to make your own templates.

I'm away to muck about with word to see if i can help you out.

Create a document template

Because templates can store macro viruses, be careful about opening them or creating files based on new templates. Take the following precautions: run up-to-date antivirus software on your computer, set your macro security level to high, clear the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box, use digital signatures, and maintain a list of trusted sources.

Do one of the following:
To base a template on an existing document

On the File menu, click Open.

Open the document you want.

To base a new template on an existing template

On the File menu, click New.

In the New Document task pane (task pane: A window within an Office application that provides commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.), under Templates, click On my computer.

Click a template that is similar to the one you want to create, click Template under Create New, and then click OK.

On the File menu, click Save As.
In the Save as type box, click Document Template. This file type will already be selected if you are saving a file that you created as a template (template: A file or files that contain the structure and tools for shaping such elements as the style and page layout of finished files. For example, Word templates can shape a single document, and FrontPage templates can shape an entire Web site.).

The default folder is the Templates folder in the Save in box. To save the template so that it will appear on a tab other than General, switch to the corresponding subfolder or create a new subfolder within the Templates folder.

In the File name box, type a name for the new template, and then click Save.

In the new template, add the text and graphics you want to appear in all new documents that you base on the template, and delete any items you don't want to appear.

Make the changes you want to the margin settings, page size and orientation, styles, and other formats.
On the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, press ALT and then SHIFT+F10.), click Save , and then click Close on the File menu.

That's all I could find on word templates. Don't know if any of that will help but i tried.

Thank you very much for that. I'll give it a try sometime tomorrow (have to borrow a neighbour's machine, cos I only have OpenOffice!)
