Tables are for losers, but...

I know tables are not for laying out websites...

but I'm doing it anyway for a quick layout in dreamweaver. (I'm going to buy the HTML Dog book when I have some extra money to spare.)

Here's my problem:

I have two tables with the same width -- 1 placed directly above the other. I want to adjust the space/gap between them. I'm using dreamweaver and when I use a hard return it creates to big of space. I want to be able to control this distance. Any suggestions?

Use the code view.

Return in design view usually creates: <p>&nbsp;</p>

Shift-return creates a <br>

I always used to bung a load of <br> commands between the tables until it looked about right!

Hilarious. The more you use CSS, the more you realize just how shit tables are/were for layouts. <br>(s) <p>&nbsp;</p>(s) and especially spacer.gif(s) are all nice to leave in the past.

You don't need to wait until you have money to buy a book to learn css. There are loads of free resources online, plus you might be surprised by your local library.

w3schools.com should get you on your way to learning css, there is no reason not to become familiar with it
