Help _Iamge transparency problems

Afternoon all.

First off I hope I have posted this in the correct area. If not, please accept my apologies.

I have an image with a white background. There are also black lines that depict a dog which also has a white body. I am trying to set the image to be transparent which I can do, but when I put this onto the webpage which has a background colour of #FF9933 (an orangey colour), I end up with blocky bits of white an orange around the black lines of the dog.

How on earth do I clean this up so that the image sits seamlessly on the orange background. I have tried everything I can think of but to no aval.

All help greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Col

Hi Haku

I tried the same and did not get an error as such but it wouldn't display the image. I then saved the thumbnail (Save Target As) and I could view it then.

I have attached again to see if it works any better

Thanks,
Colin

What image editor are you creating the image in? When saved for web in Photoshop there is an option for a matte color which needs to be set to the background color.

I have tried Coreldraw12 and Fireworks but both with the same result. I think its me doing something wrong as when I set the image background colour to that of the webpage I get a blocky mix of white and orange around the black lines

Thanks,
Col

Here you go dude.

I opened it in photoshop, changed the color mode to RGB, used the magic wand select all the white in the image, then used the background tool to erase all the white that was selected, and finally saved it when I was done. I tried it in photoshop over a #ff9933 background, and it looked fine to me.

Thanks Haku
I do feel that it is me that is messing up here. When you tried it with the orange background , was the dog still shown in white?

Hi Haku,

I did want the dog white but I managed to do that bit myself after you had done the hard part.

Very many thanks again for your help

Cheers,
Col
