Domain registration issue
Over a year ago, someone I know said that he is running web hosting service, so I asked him if I can have a site hosted by him. Gave him the money, he registered a domain and hosted it on his server. Recently I've come across the whois info for my site: whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=ilyatitov&tld=com It's his name in there. So the question is: Is the domain actually registered to him, and does it belong to him? He didn't give me any documents, nor did I really care at the time of registration. Now I am starting to put work into the site and would not be pleased if it turns out that I don't own it. I have not spoken to him yet, what should I do? |

Errr... speak to him? Seriously, do you need someone to hold your hand when you cross the road? I have a few domains belonging to a number of friends which I've registered in my name, just because it was a quicker and easier at the time, and they're never going to know the difference between a nameserver and a cheese sandwich. But if one of them asked me to hand it over, I'd do it in a flash. Before you get all Mr. Angry about it, why not actually approach the guy. He might have just been doing you a favour. |

I know, it's a stupid situation. I just sent him this: Hi Victor. I've ran across this today: whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=ilyatitov&tld=com I would like to get all the official documents and have the domain transfered to my name. Same applies to elenapriestley.com. Best regards, Ilya |

These are the very situations that demonstrate that you should always keep your domain registration and hosting separate. Brendan, do they have a domain control panel or anything? Often you can open a domain up for transfer and transfer it to your GoDaddy account or something. |

Brendan - if you want to use my nameservers (the machines that control the addresses for your webserver, email etc.) I don't mind taking on your domain if you can find your control panel. What is your domain name? This would help people to help you work out what to do. |

Hey, i've got a reply. He says he'll do what he can. Can anyone tell me what i should expect to get from him, how does a certificate look, how will i know that the domains are in my name? Probably sounds stupid, but I just don't know the answers. Thanks! |
