Member download area only?

Im using subdreamer for my site. Does any know of a way you have to sign in to access the downloads, otherwise members could just give out the links to non members.
Are there any scripts, mods or programs that can do this?

What's "subdreamer"?

You could definitely find a script that will do that. You'll need a user authentication system and then you'll probably want to store the files outside of the site root and call them up and send them to the browser via PHP.

Have a look around hotscripts.com

subreamer is like an advanced wordpress thing. Take a look at it Subdreamer CMS - Build your website today!

I have looked around that site but dont know what I need. I already have the user area as it was included with subdreamer. I know what you mean about hosting in another place but then I would have to make it run from a different database meaning users would have to sign up again

Advanced? Hardly. Wordpress doesn't popup errors every time I try to load a page. And it isn't build with (ugh) tables. And WP is free.

You don't need a separate database at all.
  • Put your protected files - the ones for members to download - outside of the site root (public_html, htdocs, whatever).
  • Write some PHP that will be shown only to users who are logged in, which grabs the file they requested from the directory outside of the site root.
    • User clicks link to request file.
    • PHP checks "Is this user logged in?"
    • If yes, PHP sends requested file to the browser.
    • If no, then some kind of error is generated.
Where's the extra database come in?

EDIT: Wow. Subdreamer sucks. I try to check the price, so it pops up errors. After I clicked "OK" about 20 times, I got a "page". But it only took 40 more clicks until my browser was usable again!
