What is the best way to learn code?

Hey everyone..

I am a photoshop-hack and I am very graphically inclined, but I have only a basic understanding of code. I have a lot of web ideas, but I have no idea how to put them into action.

My questions:
1. Is there a certain order to learn languages? (ie. javascript, then html)
2. What is the best to learn? (ie. from book, online, hands-on)
3. Any website/ book recommendations?

Thanks!

HTML and CSS. Forget JavaScript/DOM for a while.

As always, HTML Dog is the best place to start.

That's for front end code. If you're interested in actual programming, get a book on PHP and MySQL or something similar.

After working through HTML Dog, I moved on to these two books:
The first one to read is Web Standards Solutions: The Markup and Style Handbook. Dan Cederholm , a quick and easy read but really enlightening.
The next to read is CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions. Andy Budd . More advanced. Extremely good.

Don't make me think!

First get your material right, photoshop and illustrator. Then move on to HTML & CSS. You can expand this, with more languages, but these are the basics.

When you're designing an overall package, you must now how to combine the best elements of different tools. Or just be really good at one thing? And take time to learn stuff, and keep on updating your skills.

Also a nice book is "Don't Make Me Think" which aims on online usability. Really nice to read - You would skim through the info! (would be a contradiction if the "read/usability" of the book would get you stuck hahaha)

Anyway good luck!
