After putting up with graphic design course for 2 years I eventually completed the course feeling very put off by my experience, not to mention a portfolio a bit on the thin side. For the whole 2 years we only did 8 projects and one of them was a live project for a music cd. What I really need is some freelance work to really strengthen my portfolio and help me get some better work or atleast a place in a small studio, the only problem is with the current portfolio I have Im fining it very difficult to even find a single job. Have you got any tips on what I can do to help build up my portfolio? Im more than happy to do some work for free but Im unsure about where to look. Anyone got any tips or know of good ways to keep active? Cheers |

Short Suggestion
First of: "work for free" is pretty unrealistic, given your two years of education, there's at least a small rate you can start with. think about it. What kind of job are you exactly looking for? Do you have anything of your portfolio online? Opening a quick Wordpress blog and posting some images of it will give you an online reference you can show to potential clients. Encourage yourself to always have something going on, even if its just a personal project/drawing/website. Maybe look for a nearby store or a local small business that might need a website, a graphic, maybe some flyers or a logo; there might even be a friend or someone in your family in needs of something you can do. Set yourself realistic goals and miss no deadlines, stay active and your portfolio will start to grow. anddddd good luck! |
