wordpress help

I've redesigned my portfolio for a bloglike use.
I'd like to use wordpress but wordpress forums are a bit blurry to me and I'm not sure about the best way to put things :

I've got a basic structure :

home
about
portfolio (this should not be a link)
> net (here a loop in the net projects)
> print (here a loop in the print projects)
> identity (here a loop in the identity projects)
contact
clients

I'm asking to those of you that use wordpress :
am I going to a headache ?

what should be a page ? what should be a category ?

help.

look in the codex for understanding how wordpress works.
Pages « WordPress Codex

From my experience you can beat it into submission. Of course if you are a programmer you can ease it in place.
Based on your structure, I would assume net/print/identity are categories the rest are pages.

Also you might want to have a look at multiple loops.

thanks emil.
the codex is a mess. each word in every single line links to another source of content. I just can't get focused on what I read.

I don't understand what you mean with : you can beat it into submission

can you please go further ?

What I mean is that you'd probably grow a couple of extra gray hairs, if you are like me (non-programmer), but it will eventually work. I had randomcolors set up in wordpress before I switched servers.

The codex is where you will learn how to configure wordpress to do what you need it to do. The forum is filled with the same questions being asked over and over again.

I would surely get less grey hair if I did it by myself with a simple database and querys that fits my needs...

If you can do it, then go ahead. Using wordpress might force you to some tradeoffs in your design.
I can only code front end, hence I found wordpress to be a good tool for me.

Yes I can code simple things like a bloglike portfolio but when it comes to real blogging systems, I won't have what it takes.

I always think I will run a blog one day, making my portfolio on wordpress was a kind of first step. The major problem is I hate compromise on my designs, and you can't avoid that with opensource stuff.
