Been reading articles on drupal.org and fiddling with an install on my dev box. It's slick, fast, and flexible. I'm sold.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to use the Path and Taxonomy modules and I (might) be on my way. The book I ordered should be here tomorrow or today.

@mike_m - Could you PM or email me the URL for the company you're referring to? I'd just like to see what they work on.

ive been lookin at cms - never used it before (or heard of it till latley haha) and i thought it might be good for my site, seems really complicated (for me anyway) and so many sites

ive tried wordpress but that was no good
also looked into CMS Made Simple

Someone also recommended Joomla but dont know what the difference between them all,

My site is like 100 pages mostly just text/images but also want things like forum, calendar etc and news which users can comment, also has lots of videos on too. so thought it would be ideal and easier to update but not sure yet

may i get a link to this tutorial? thanks in advance!

Yeah, I noticed that.

Anywho, I got my copy of "Pro Drupal Development". Great book so far. I'll be diving deep into this week.

Ive installed Drupal today and been having a go but not sute if ill be able to get it how i want for my site (considering i dont know much) hehe

my site is quite large - its only a fansite but has lots of stuff, for the news its good as users can comment and good when its updated a lot and my site has loads of videos (havent uploaded any images or videos yet so dont know how it will work) so it seems a good way to show when/whats been added to the site - espesh for new videos, news and appearances etc

but for just normal pages which wont be updated much/at all it has 'Submitted by ...... on Sun, 09/16/2007 - 19:06' etc at the top which i dont want - thats only useful for me on pages ill update a lot like news and stuff ill add to a lot

also the 'primary links' at the top are in alphabetical order and cant seem to change them

maybe i should get that book, may help hehe

...or maybe Drupal isn't right for you.

From what I've read, it's immensely customizable and easy as piss to get a basic module written.

If you want to do anything fancy with it - beyond just the core and modules and templating you'll need to know PHP/SQL.

Krazy Kel stick with it.

It has a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it you will have the ability to do quite abit with just the modules they already have in play if you aren't up for building your own.

So far I have made roughly4 drupal sites..in the middle of transforming one of them, but anyways I'm very glad I didn't give up with the system. It took be about 3 days to get the hang of things and I'm still learning more about it, should have probably gotten a book, but so far I'm doing ok on my own.

Basically stick with it and you will be amazed by the possibilities. here's my latest drupal site, still working on it.

Been playing with it all day. Love the community features.

I have the same concern as I did with Expression Engine - no obvious hierarchical page structure. People are used to seeing hierarchy - for example an intranet (the project I'm moving towards rebuilding in Drupal) might have sections like:

Code:
human resources -> medical insurance -> dental insurance -> company policies marketing -> brand identity -> photo collections -> resources
And so on.

How is this sort of thing achieved in Drupal? Taxonomy module?

It takes some getting used to, but these seem to be wise words:

Quote:
Hence, programmers/developers who first encounter Drupal are often confused with the way Drupal handles content. This is because Drupal puts the content at the center of the CMS while traditional CMS put structure first and the content last. The way traditional CMS treated content and structure eventually became its limitation: if you first define the structure, then you are more or less locked within the confines of this structure.
From: Drupal and the New Paradigm for Content Management | The Couch Kamote (the English is a bit weak in parts, but better than my filipino).
