illustrator question for print

I have this problem. I have an object over which i drew with white colour brush, then i made the brush transparent. Now the object is one Pantone colour, and of course the brush is then a part of that colour as it is transparent and white is the colour of medium in print.

Now the problem is that the brush stroke extends over the object for instance square and I want to trim it, because it will be further used and sometimes the background could not be white and the brush would still be seen.

First of course I expand appereance of the brush to get it out of just line into fill, then the pathfinder tool. But the thing is that it cuts everything ok, I could remove the bits around that are too much, but it destroys the transparency on the object into just full colour.

Anyone have a solution or maybe how you do these kind of things.

Peter
