essay
Gotta start my essay this week for my art foundation. The question I have chosen is 'Technology has had a great impact on the way graphic designers work today. How has it affected the way they work and think?' can anybody point me in the direction of useful articles, designers, studios, or topics to look up that will help me out. i'm particularily looking for articles on the introduction of photoshop etc, and bauhaus related stuff. or, what's your opinion on the matter? thanks |

Jeremy Clarkson is seemingly an expert on Bauhaus, maybe email him! Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the one thing that he can’t afford to lose. - Thomas Edison

I beg your pardon. One way of doing some research would be to Google up a couple of local design companies or ad agencies and see if they have any old farts still working there who wouldn't mind talking about the good old days with you over a pint of beer darna pub. As long as you're paying, but that's understood. You'll probably get a better insight into how the field has changed and workflows have adapted over the years by talking to real people rather than a boiled-down history on a couple of web pages. Is that idea useful enough for you? I'll move along now ;-) |

Google John Maeda. John Maeda is a world-renowned graphic designer, visual artist, and computer scientist at the MIT Media Lab, and is a founding voice for “simplicity” in the digital age. Are we on the right track? I'll move move along if we arent. |

I think technology has mainly impacted the business in that trends seem to boom much quicker now... The massively easy connectivity that the internet facilitates has allowed trends to emerge on a global scale - Something that was much rarer before the internet was commonplace. If anything that has dulled the edge off design now... There seems to be less creativity and more relentless playing on a particular theme that is popular at a given time (read: shiny text, drop shadows, tic-tacs, reflections etc at the moment). Just my thoughts. David |
