Hello, I am looking for a little advice about how much i should be looking at budgeting towards getting a new website developed. We are currently updating the image of our little jewelery business and would obviously like to extend that new image to our website. We have done some reviewing of other websites selling similar product to our own (all be it on a far bigger scale) and have found a number of sites which offer the elegance and style we feel best represents the product which we sell. However we have utterly no idea the kind of budget required to create sites of this caliber. It is for this reason that i turn to you and ask if any of you would be willing to give me some ball park figures based on these sites. I must add at this point that although some of these sites offer e-commerce, we at present are not looking directly to enter that area and so please take that into account Sites: http://www.louvre.ru/ http://www.verragio.com/ http://www.boodles.co.uk/ http://www.cottrillsretail.com/ http://www.graffdiamonds.com/ Many many thanks to anyone who chooses to reply, Anthony |

If you want that kind of quality, you should budget around 5k - 7k I reckon. It could swing a fair amount either way - It all depends on the designers. I'd pick 3 companies, ask them to quote, and give the job to whoever you feel the best vibes for. |

Many thanks to those who have replied so-far, what a varied mix of responces! Definatly food for thought though! If anyone else has any advice please do chip in. Secondly, in responce to mike_m's comment on selecting 3 designers and requesting a tender, is there any well known method of judging which companies to approch? Single designers/Design houses? Should i look at portfolio's to find the people who have created the most-like products to which i want to recieve or should i simply go for the best guys? I see a lot of fantastic work on portfolio sites which obviously display skill and creativity but which are not in the style of the work which i want doing, which is better a fantastic designer or a designer who knows your specific market? Any advice accepted with the greatest of thanks, Anthony |

First of all - ignore that spamming freak above ^^ IF you have the sort of budget - It's best to browse around at agencies looking at their work - Have a look at their work - then choose which agencies work you like, then choose 2/3 so you have a mix of talent and different quotes to work from. If you want something do properly hire a professional - don't go for the "cheapest designer" If you don't have the budget there are quite a few freelance designers who will do it for a cheaper price however make sure you play the field as at the end of the day you get the final say and you are the one with the money. |
