web forwarding problem
I've made my first webiste, but I don't want to pay too much to get it up and going. I've therefore used my Virgin freespace, and have used "freeparking.co.uk" as a domain registrar. Freeparking use web forwarding to my freespace address. Freeparking use masking so that my domain name is always displayed in the address box of the browser window. They do this by opening all the pages in a 100% frame. The trouble is that the frame scrolling is set to "auto". This causes a problem when I try to centre my site on the screen: - when I go from a page which is longer than the browser window to one that is shorter, the scrollbar disappears, and the whole page shifts to the right on the screen. I feel that scrolling should be set to "yes". However, there's nothing that I can do about this as I am unable to edit freeparking's script. If anyone's got any ideas about how to tackle this problem I'd be really grateful to hear them (unless it involved spending lots of money!).Is there anything I can do to prevent the page moving around on the screen? Do all domain registrars use this frame method of web forwarding? |

Get some real hosting and a real domain registrar. If you can't afford $10/year for a domain and $5/month for hosting, I think you have bigger problems than crappy frame nonsense. How is dealing with that worth saving $70/year?? If you're a kid, ask your parents for the money. |

Well if you want to be found on search engines then it will index the address of the free hosting, as most search engines don't like framed forwarding. Then you've got the problem of links to other websites using forwarding because sometimes it will keep your domain in the address bar even if you are viewing an external site. And if you're looking for inbound links form specific pages then it's hard for people to do so with framed forwarding as it only displays one URL. |
