how do you know who has visited your site? when i look at stats i just get a load of ip address(s)

I use google analytics, no idea if you can track individuals but you get a good idea where the bulk of your traffic comes from.

there are websites you can do a whois style lookup (like this one) - plug in an ip address and you'll get a url. you have to do this manually though - my stats program gives me a list of ip addresses. maybe you could get someone here to write you a program...?

google analytics is pretty damn good if you spend some time looking at all of the features, i use it and ive found it priceless

Yes, it's free. www.google.com/analytics/

I use it, but I haven't delved into its features too much. I mostly use AWStats - GA is good for getting screen resolutions, though.
