Calling all adobe illustrator users

Ok i have an image with a white square around it, this white square came around the image when i saved it. is there anyway of removing this in illustrator so that the image alone remains with no background color not even white!!

I have to say, every question you have asked on this forum could have been easily answered with a google, or 5 minutes playing with the software, or god forbid, reading the fucking manual.
