Be really evil and give them 5 pages of a4 to answer on, that'll have them frantically scribbling.

yes I took out the question on specifity as I kind of realised when reading it it was the kind of thing only a real frigging geek would know (same goes for azimuth - Emil)

ok .... so i could probably answer most of them questions - or at least give my thoughts on what they were etc ...

but it still seems to me that answering potentially tricky questions on the spot is a bit of 'school test' as stickmus mentioned ... and i'm not a fan of all that ... why throw people into waffling and gibbering when they may actually be decent candidates ...

can you use CSS ?
do you test cross platform ?
do you validate your work ?
have you got a good feel for functionality and design ?
show me your work, your code and your tits (if applicable)

the theory vs the practical.

Its like when you 'work with computers' ... and everyone thinks you can fix their PC !! ?? !!

NOT THE CASE.

true enough but the questions have certainly helped. Those conducting some of the interviews know jack shit about CSS and wouldnt know a right answer from a wrong one

You don't know the whole proverb, Hound

A remote Emil is worth a bird in the bush,
A local monkey is worth a shaven bird's bush

well, good luck finding the right man for the job ... i'm sure you will.
but remember - those personal qualities are all important too !!
no point getting some 'azimuth spouting geek' if they don't fit in...

(no offence, Emil )

Azimuth keeps popping at me when I code my css in DW. Curiosity and all that.

personality will be the deciding factor... the company undertake these 'profile tests' - I had one when I joined and it was remarkably accurate

I've never used CSS hacks.

IMHO it shows you can't make websites work in the first place.
