I need a simple CMS with user accounts
My crazy bosses whom I've already detailed about in another thread now want a website for a client in less than a month (18 days) because "they've already printed brochures with their web address on them." I hate that... Anyways I figured it would be tough but no problem, just a simple layout, some tabs, fill in the content and I'm done! Right? Nope. I get my "agenda" for this project and the project manager who apparently knows nothing about anything wants 3 designs by tomorrow, a finalized design by Saturday, and then I'm supposed to be putting up the pages by Monday....wait what? I don't think she realizes that by 3 designs I'm thinking 3 general sketches in Photoshop for the client to pick the one they think looks best, that doesn't mean they're all coded and ready to go! I can't pull a fully coded, XHTML/CSS website out of my ass in 4 days! Seriously if I could say "Fuck off" without getting fired and losing this side job and my real job, I would. So anyways other than that things looked okay, I'll just tell her to bump that back a week and maybe she could actually write some content, although she's not a native speaker and she is horrible and spelling, grammar, sentence structure, everything about English really. So that's out of the question. Anyways further along the schedule I see that on the 22nd I'm supposed to create a registration form which is described as "link to database" which makes no sense but I'm assuming that means she wants user accounts...oh yeah and also on that day she wants Paypal integration. All on one day...umm no. Shoot me now. So does anyone know of a simple CMS that has user accounts and pretty much only user accounts. It needs to be in PHP too. I don't know how I'm going to verify a Paypal payment without creating a custom application (in one day!) but whatever. |

If you want a "simple" CMS the best place to start looking is opensourcecms IMO. You can try them out in demo versions and see which one best fits your requirements. |

Check out CMS Made Simple in conjunction with the FrontEndUsers module and CustomContent module. But you should definitely get as much detail out of these people beforehand. You don't want to pick something and then have them ask for more features that your choice doesn't offer. CMS Made Simple can cover most general website features (sometimes it gets tricky using different modules in conjunction with each other though). |

I've looked at that site and CMS matrix and frankly they're fairly useless. They don't appear to allow me to filter through all the CMS's there in order to find one with the features I want. That's why I'm wondering if someone has a good CMS that they'd recommend that's light and small and easy to theme. |

modx gets my vote. awesome. all xhtml/css ready (unlike joomla/mambo), and very easy to use with great documentation. you can play with it on http://www.opensourcecms.com (under portals). |

I have tried modx once, seemed promising, but wasn't that feature-rich and a pain in the a.. to make a decent site. Joomla is very powerfull and very flexible in design. If you need a quick site its easy with the thousands of templates there are, but you should really have a unique template. If you ever run into problems with time, i can have a unique site up within a few days in Joomla. edit: opensource.com is made with Joomla..... |

I looked at MODx on opensourcecms.com and spent 5 minutes logged in. That was enough. It has the most god-awful admin interface. It's like they wanted to take all the things that are bloated and nasty about Mambo/Joomla and multiply them by 10. |

I've had a lok at modx and i liked it .. the admin interface could have used some attention when i last saw it - but mostly just cosmetic stuff. it does seem pretty good to go ... i've steered clear of mambo and joomla - just heard too many nasty things about them ... fuck signatures
