Illustrator blur problem

This is a wierd problem that happens only on my computer at work and i'm confused. When adding a gaussian blur effect to a shape in Illustrator there is only so much blur I can add before it goes square at the edges (see picture)

is it for screen or print?

Just mesh-grid it and save all the cpu effort

Wouldn't a radial gradient give you the same result?

What video card do you have? If you print it does it still look like that?

Have you tried opening the same file on a different computer?

Did you resize it afer you have applied the filter?

Ok, it does the same thing when I enter a big amount for the gaussian blur value. It is odd that the radial gradient didn't work.

Later edit: you could try to mask it

Radial blur doesn't do the right thing for me really, its too concentrated and doesn't blur enough.

Here are my gaussian blur examples

ps - is it possible to show images on this forum without uploading to any webspace?

But we're talking about radial gradient not blur.

use the manage attachments button (the paper clip) to add files in advanced mode.

The problem is probably caused by your document's raster setting.
Go to Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings

Make sure this is set to 300dpi - and the colour mode is CMYK/RGB (depending on the colour mode you're working in).

The document raster effects is already set to 300dpi at CMYK.

I'm not talking about radial gradient, i'm talking about a blur as I need the edges to be transparent.
