co.uk vs .com...
Hi all, I am looking to change my domain name, there is co.uk and com available, I'm from the UK but is co.uk best, in terms of SEO, and general practice, I know a lot of people will add com at the end of URLs when searching a domain direct, and firefox seems to search com first when you just type the name of the domain, thoughts and advice would be mucho appreciated. thanks in advance, Mark. |

If you want your site to do well in the UK Search Engines you should use not only the .uk domain but also British Hosting - this includes google.co.uk ('search pages from the UK'). Plenty of evidence to suggest that domains with local tld are given the benefit in local searches - where .net, .com, .org etc suffer. Given the option I'd buy both and redirect the .com to the .uk as PGO said. |

have you got any evidence about the hosting limbo limbo ? I'm not disputing it as such, I've always heard it, just never found it myself. I agree about the .co.uk. That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

Beers : http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/32646.htm Read this - it's got a fair few viewpoints on the subject. I trust one or two of the respondents who argue in favour of localised hosting. As they say, a site with plenty of back links and lots of decent content will do well regardless. More: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/33184.htm Again mixed responses - but the general consensus is in favor. |
