Targeted Feeds

I've been asked to include a page of external RSS feeds on our intranet. However, we're looking for specific categories relating to one another - counter-terrorism, technology, etc.

I've tried Google News. Decent results, but our RSS parsing module doesn't like Google News feeds for whatever reason. So, that's out.

I've tried Newsvine. Lackluster results. Far more opinion than actual news.

I've tried the Associated Press. Meh.

Any ideas?

Also, if you've run into legal issues with anything similar, let me know. My concern is that sites like the aforementioned say the feeds are for "personal, non-commercial use". We are a commercial entity, but we're using them for non-commercial purposes (only employees will see them - simply as an information source).

Let me clarify by saying that we're looking for feeds related to counter-terrorism and technology and similar.

Articles about MySpace aren't really relevant.

articles about myspace from techcrunch would be technology related. maybe you need to be a little more specific with what you're asking.

all the large news networks offer lists of feeds.

I'd probably need to know which way your politics lent before being more counter-terrorism specific.

And you're right, you're using them for non-commercial reasons so you'll be fine.

I was hoping for something more specific - like "counter-terrorism technology" and similar items (nanotech, radar, infrared cameras, surveillance devices, etc) since that's our industry.

Politics need to stay out of it (but, personally, I lean left ).

Well, so far I've got the AP World News feed and I'll be adding a Newsvine "terrorism" feed.

Anyway, I'll keep digging. Thanks.

Oh, and we were right about the "non-commercial" use of feeds. Newsvine said we would be fine.

Good idea stickmus. I'll look into that - I hadn't heard of Google blog search. My only concern is that we'd get too much opinion as opposed to news. I'll discuss it with my superiors.

I found one good one yesterday: http://www.wired.com/technology/security.html
