Self Initiated Work

Since my boss (a jaded marketer) seems to make it her mission in life to drain the creativity out of any concepts I propose, I've been re-working some of our projects in my own time for my portfolio and listing them as concepts that were rejected or that the Client decided not to spend their budget on.

Is this a valid way of explaining this work in an interview situation, do you think?

no, that sounds crap. Just say it was a pitch that the client didnt go for as they were too progressive. You'll sound like a graphics stallion.

Meant to include "a pitch they didn't go for" in my original post.

Anything else?

Rather then putting yourself down, make it sound like you were 'too designery' for the client.

Just say your boss was in Marketing, they will understand.
