Cannot edit webpage

Hi all! Just encountered a problem in the website, I tried to log in as administrator but I cannot edit the homepage. The template for editing does not upload and I'm trying to figure out if there are missing codes in that particular page.

This is what I'm doing now, but can't figure out anything:
I log in as admin. Viewed and saved the codes of an editable page. Viewed and saved the codes of uneditable page. Found out there are missing javascript in the uneditable page after comparison.

I logged out as admin. Viewed and saved codes of editable page. Viewed and saved codes of uneditable page. No difference at all. I cannot find the embedded javascript in the editable page which makes it editable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much!

Go and put the kettle on. Sit down and have a quiet word with yourself.
Think, would it not be a good idea to go back to the site creator and find out what the problem is there?

Thanks subcircle. But I have to tell you that right now, I have to rely on my limited knowledge of the web. The website was created years ago and for some unknown reasons there was no backend support from the site developer.

Without knowing how the management system was built it is hard to comment.
If you can get hold of the company that originally supplied the site they should be able to work out the problem for you.
Is it a custom cms or an off the shelf package?

Thanks Sub.
Maybe I'll just ask the server administrator to restore the page, before I edited it.
