Ring BT for a new modem that allows ethernet connection to your iMac as well as the internet line.

Andy. I'm sorry to say this but you've bought the wrong router. You needed to buy a router with a built-in ADSL modem (like this one ). Unless you can source an ADSL modem with an ethernet port in the back, you'll have to send your router back.

FYI The port on the back of the modem is not an ethernet port not the phone line socket.
In order for it to work you would need to plug the modems usb lead into the back of your router, but I doubt there's an usb port / only ethernet ports. And no you can't use a usb to ethernet converter

your speedtouch modem is an adsl modem, but it's the cheap shit one that all the isp's give away free and so doesn't include a ethernet port on the back. If you search about you can buy adsl modems which have ethernet, but the cost pretty much negates the point. Send you router back if you can and swap it for one with a built -in adsl modem.
