intergrating a forum's member system

I have to integrate a forum's membership system with an existing site's registration system. Anyone have any experience of the easiest to do?

I'm not bothered about a forum's members features such as profiles, personal messaging, etc. We'll be using the existing system for all that. Just need to make sure when they register on the site they're also registered on the forum. So simple forum recommendations too.

I would think the best way to do it would be to have a second write to db function just after the current sign up write to db. So duplicating the info into the forums member db. Then it would just be a case of looking at the stored data for a fully functioning forum member and duplicating that at the write. Remember then you also have to duplicate on the remove function. Oh and edit profile. Ahh it's all turning to shit in my hands again. Good luck.

thanks. I'm not particularly interested in the best way of doing it though. I'm happy with my own abilities there.

I'm asking if anyone has any experience actually doing it and if so which forum is the easiest to integrate.
