centering pages to accomidate resolution

I am trying to make sure that my page is viewable with both 800 x 600 and larger resolutions.

I want the page to take up the entire viewable area when in 800 x 600.

When in larger resolutions I want the actual page to stay 800 x 600 and add borders to the sides to make up the aditional viewable space provided by the higher resolution.

When I try to do this it doesnt work

The large res buffers I create show up in both resolutions or the browser autosizes the content and they dont show up at all.

help please! thanks! Justin

Just put a background to the body in your CSS and add a margin-left:auto, margin-right:auto to your main container.

Don't forget text-align center on the body and text-align left on the container.
