i was the same as i was researching location based media and came accross info lon locative media but im not sure if they are the same or not.

ah, are you looking into the type of thing where, you walk past starbucks and they push an sms to you saying come in and show this text, and you get a half price coffee sorta thing?

almost its more about getting information based on your location. the sms thing is more about if you wonder into a certain area so its is similiar

He's right.

Locative media is bound to a location (like Mike's example), but location based media is delivered to the user based on the user's location (like GPS, which isn't bound to a fixed location itself).

i wish it was that simple but it seems they are the same. searching for both gives all sorts of different explanations. im not sure if that is because others have got confused and started using the phrase locative media or if in fact they are the same.

Just read your wikipedia link. Seems locative media is a term some art ponce made up so he could do 'GPS art'. Think its art and experiments using location-based technology to explore ideas of location, reality and space.

If not, I give up.
