static url

Is there a way of keep the url in teh address bar regardless of what page you go to i.e. www.thissite.com

and the then you go to hp.html but instead of

www.thissite.com/hp.html you still see www.thissite.com in the address bar

You could do some jiggery pokery with the .htaccess file, or, and this gives me a shudder - wrap the whole thing in a frame.. But don't.

I think even with .htaccess you would struggle as you still need to pass the page parameters somehow - a frame would do it, but why???

There are 2 ways to do this. Using your inetmgr (IIS) or if you control your domain name using a provider - most nowdays allow you to ghost your URL (especially if you have some kind of private webspace with long and unprofessional address. (i.e., homesite.users.free.com/etc/etc/home.html or something)

Hope that helps.

I believe - and not speaking from experience - you'd need access to the Windows OS that's on the server that hosts the site. IIS, in my understanding, doesn't have anything like .htaccess. Those sorts of things are controlled from within the OS.

If I remember correctly, DotEasy.com offers you the ability to mask your URLs... not 100% sure on that, it's been a while since I've used DotEasy.com.

I don't think it is Max - if it is I'd really like to find out how they do it.

But Rakan took the words out of my mouth "masking the URL" is the more familiar term.
