What is interlaced?
What is interlaced? When I come to save png files, it asks me if I want it 'interlaced' or 'none' ? Also, is png the best format for saving images with a transparent background? I'm working with flash, using images i've created in Photoshop. decent web hosting - www.balue.com

As I understand it interlaced effects the way data loads into an image. Basically it loads the image in 64 layers, meaning when the image is displayed in a browser it starts being rendered after 1/64th of the data has loaded. Interlaced GIFs on the other hand start rendering after 1/8th of the image has loaded. Andrew Parker

>>Also, is png the best format for saving images with a transparent background<< Depending on the destination of the images, yes, PNGs will definitely be a good choice if you want transparent backgrounds, unlike JPGs. Also, unlike GIFs (which also allow for transparent BGs), you are not limited in the colour palette. The one negative to using PNGs on websites (which is what I am assuming you want to do) is that not all browsers recognise them. |
