Cutting in photoshop

Hi everyone, i know many people who have many different views on this but what is the easiest and neatest way to cut around a complicated object in photoshop?

using the highest contrast channel in your alpha channels list. try to get the part you want in black and the part you don't want in white. then use your alpha channel to create a selection. [ctrl + select thumbnail or layer] it won't look like it selected in detail, but it does. then go back to your layers. select appropriate layer. press delete.

feathering your selection will help if you are dropping the image onto another - acts like an alias. Softly does it mind.

I use either the magnetic or polygonal lasso tool to get an approximation then I click the "Edit in Quick Mask Mode (Q)" button, zoom in, and fill in the edges I need with a paintbrush + eraser. Zoom out regularly to check your work.
