Had the trainers I used to wear as a kid in the 80s been as fashionable then as they are now, I'd have been the coolest kid on the block. However, in the mid 80s (before Jelly Baby was born, probably), gola and dunlop green flash trainers were the sign of someone with no taste (or money) whatsoever. It was all about the SPX and British Knights, LA Gear, Nike and Adidas high tops. Wearing Gola trainers (my old man had a mate who worked for them and got them cheap and thus wouldn't get me any of the above) was an embarassment. I felt like a right cunt, in fact. Thanks Dad, you bastard.
