Work Experience
How would you prefer to have a student ask for work experience. I've sent a letter to one place and an e-mail to another, and my dad got me my last placement at www.whitehousemainwaring.com. Is it a "Hello, I'm enquiring about work experience, i'm a 17 yr old student blah di blah" or would you prefer a formal letter? |

The best (email) one I ever got was: Quote:
That was also sent to every web studio in Nottingham. It's nice to know he/she was so bothered about personalising their 'letter.' I'd say call people - seems like you're more bothered then. Failing that, a short snappy email with links/images is best. Follow up with a phone call. |

I'd ring and ask to speak to the studio manager or creative director. Tell him your situation, state what you hope to gain from work experience and why you chose them and ask whether they may be able to accommodate and extra pair of hands. The personal approach works best. They'll be able to learn a lot more about you from a phone call than any letter or email you send. Andrew Parker

i agree with ^ a short email, friendly but not familiar (no knob jokes) explaining your situation (don't ramble) - links to your work. follow up with a phone call a few days later. if this fails, send a picture of a pretty girl. |

May be but the worst they can say is no. I wouldn't send an email because it is far too impersonal. Many people won't even read it. Also the employer has no way of knowing whether you banged out the email to a hundred other agencies. Andrew Parker
